Saturday Sangha

In Pantanjali’s sacred text, “The Yoga Sutras,” he outlines an 8-fold path, known as the Eight Limbs of Yoga, which includes the third (asana/poses) and fourth (pranayama/breath work) limbs that are most familiar to yoga students.  Together, the Eight Limbs provide a rich framework for our yoga practice on the mat, and for restoring us to unity of body, mind and spirit in our lives.

This month, Saturday Sangha classes are focused on the second limb of the 8-fold path:  the Niyamas, which are internal codes of conduct, sometimes referred to as personal observances.  The Niyamas are essentially moral guidelines outlining how to conduct ourselves in healthy ways.  The fourth Niyama is “Svadhyaya,” which refers to self-study, getting to know ourselves deeply and compassionately. Svadhyaya invites us to be curious about our habitual ways of thinking and being, so that we can move ever closer to union with Atman, our truest and most divine self. It is a process of self reflection and discovery that magnifies our awareness of who we are, resulting in enhanced freedom and connection with ourselves and our lives.

In this all levels class, we will move mindfully through a sequence of asanas (poses) to cultivate strength and flexibility in the body, exploring opportunities to linger in poses and observe our habitual reactions to working with our bodies in new and sometimes challenging ways. Class will conclude with a luxurious savasana (resting pose) to cultivate self care.

Individual classes are $15 and payment can be sent via Venmo to SandyPauseYoga. See the “Pricing and Packages” page for additional information. All classes are listed in central (DST) time.
