"Aim True" Saturday Sangha Class

“Aim True” Saturday Sangha Class

In Pantanjali’s sacred text, “The Yoga Sutras,” he outlines an 8-fold path, known as the Eight Limbs of Yoga, which includes the third (asana/poses) and fourth (pranayama/breath work) limbs that are most familiar to yoga students.  Together, the Eight Limbs provide a rich framework for our yoga practice on the mat, and for restoring us to unity of body, mind and spirit in our lives.

This month, Saturday Sangha classes are focused on the first limb of the 8-fold path:  the Yamas, which are ethical standards, sometimes referred to as moral restraints.  The Yamas are essentially moral guidelines regarding how to live in the world and interact with others.  The second Yama is “Satya,” which means truthfulness, or “that which is.”  Satya refers not only to truth in one’s speech and actions, but also to the truth that gets obscured by our thoughts, emotions and moods.  By practicing Satya, we create space in the mind, understanding that we are not our thoughts, and commit to loving our truest selves (the atman) and living authentically in relationship with one another.

In this all levels class, we will move through a sequence of asanas (poses) to cultivate strength and flexibility in our bodies with kindhearted attentiveness to what we are experiencing, moving from reactivity to curiosity, and returning again and again to the breath.  Our sequence will include kali mudra, the seal (hand gesture) named after the fierce Goddess Durga, to empower us in living from our truth. Class will conclude with a luxurious savasana (resting pose).

Classes are $15 and payment can be sent via Venmo to SandyPauseYoga. All classes are listed in central (CST) time.
