"Abundance Abounds" Saturday Sangha Yoga

“Abundance Abounds” Sunday Sangha Class

In Pantanjali’s sacred text, “The Yoga Sutras,” he outlines an 8-fold path, known as the Eight Limbs of Yoga, which includes the third (asana/poses) and fourth (pranayama/breath work) limbs that are most familiar to yoga students.  Together, the Eight Limbs provide a rich framework for our yoga practice on the mat, and for restoring us to unity of body, mind and spirit in our lives.

This month, Saturday Sangha classes are focused on the first limb of the 8-fold path:  the Yamas, which are ethical standards, sometimes referred to as moral restraints.  The Yamas are essentially moral guidelines regarding how to live in the world and interact with others.  The third Yama is “Asteya,” which means “non-stealing.”  Asteya is easily appreciated in terms of not stealing another’s possessions, but its deeper meaning reflects a commitment to refrain from comparison with and judgement of others, respecting and honoring the earth and nature’s abundance, and releasing past and future preoccupations which impede our commitment to living mindfully in the present.  By practicing Asteya, we root ourselves in gratitude for our lives.

In this all levels class, we will move mindfully through a sequence of asanas (poses) to cultivate strength and flexibility.  Our practice will include asanas to deepen our appreciation for our body’s mobility, while offering opportunities to challenge ourselves with a spirit of curiosity and compassion.  Class will conclude with a luxurious savasana (resting pose).

Classes are $15 and payment can be sent via Venmo to SandyPauseYoga. All classes are listed in central (CST) time.
